Our story
We’re Nathan and Phoebe, Founders of Penny Designs, and our story began in the Isle of Man with an 1860s townhouse - and the kitchen we couldn’t find.
We are a couple who fell in love with a home in need of renovation. We could picture the home it might become. Then the work began, and we quickly discovered just how easily the costs could gather pace.
We collected quote after quote and worked through design after design.
Every time we included the things we truly wanted, the total crept beyond our budget. When we tried to bring the price back down, quality was often the first thing we were expected to sacrifice.
We wanted thoughtful design, lasting quality and all those clever details that make a space a pleasure to live with.
So we rolled up our sleeves.
We spent hours researching, comparing prices and learning where our money would make the greatest difference.
Eventually, we designed everything ourselves, sourced it from further afield and project managed the whole process.
It was a little unconventional. It was certainly a learning curve. And we loved it.
More importantly, we love the kitchen that came from it. We love how it looks, how it works and all the thoughtful extras hidden inside it. We also love that its price meant we could create the room we had imagined without placing the rest of our home out of reach.
And that became Penny Designs.
We knew we couldn’t be the only people standing between a vision and a very real budget.
